10 Reasons To Love Your Career

February would be a dull month without the love. Whether you are with the love of your life or not, take a fresh look at your career with Valentines eyes!

1. Lasts longer than some relationships

Stats indicate the average time people stay in a permanent job is 4.6 years but the average romantic relationship lasts about 2.9 months. The stats vary from country to country and job sector but overall it seems you are likely to remain in the same job or at least with the same employer for a lot longer than many relationships! Unlike a romantic other half your career is yours to command.

2. Its there for you even when you don’t love it

Some days at work are going to be easier than others true. Your professional ‘know-how’ is valuable and it’s constantly growing so treasure it. Perhaps it’s not what you do but who you work for that’s the problem. Don’t mix these up! Get clear about what you love doing.

3. You are in charge of your career – always

There comes a time for all of us to move on and create something new. If you choose to leave a job you get to take the best of it with you. Remember that you always have a choice about whether you stay or go. Feeling trapped just means you haven’t got clear on your exit strategy figured out just yet! There is always something new to learn.

4. A career is a moneymaker wealth generator

Whatever your profession, it’s the means you fund your home, family, and lifestyle. Whilst it’s a responsibility, it does enable you to claim your independence as you choose how and where you spend your income. If you’re not happy doing what you are doing or earning then it’s time for you to set new goals.

5. Your career is a divine creation even on those days you don’t feel divine

Not every day at work needs to be at full pelt. On those days you feel tired, have PMT or are recovering from the previous night’s party then have an easy day. This isn’t suggesting you become a full time skiver but having a change of pace will serve you and your employer in the long term.

6. The perfect opportunity to define and redefine you

Women have a tendency to get lost with family labels i.e. mother, daughter, wife, sister, fiancée etc. and they are all wonderful roles to take on. At times though, they can be all consuming and you end up losing yourself. As much as you love being known as someone’s mum, sister, wife at work you are known for just you. Everyone’s sense of individuality is important to them and your work life gives you an opportunity to embrace this.

7. Making great friends

Whatever the size of the organisation you work for there will be the chance to make some great friends with people you may not have previously come into contact with on a regular basis. You spend so much time with work colleagues through good times and bad times that the bonds of friendship run deeper than just acquaintance level. We can make some of our most enduring friendships at work.

8. Being a great friend

Just as you will be touched at the generosity of certain work colleagues, you can also step up and be that great friend that someone needs. Maybe you will be the birthday cake organiser or the card co-ordinator. These little things can become the building blocks to great friendships.

9. You can make a positive difference to the world

So many women want to make that positive difference in the world for themselves, their families and friends. This can be very personal i.e. wanting to earn a certain income to buy a home or perhaps it’s that you believe that a process in the workplace can be improved upon for everyone’s benefit; clients, customers etc. Whatever the motivator is, your career will provide a way for you to achieve this both for you and others.

10. Sometimes there’s cake and that means celebration!

Even for the gluten intolerant at some point cake will available to celebrate. Whether it’s a birthday, promotion or successful project completion everyone likes a ‘break’ from the norm. Cake is one of the most practical team builders available!

Take some time to celebrate your career, your hard work and determination. #Loveyourcareer
